Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Warriors Group

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a diverse cast of characters, and a exciting storyline showcasing celestial beings, demons, and dark forces growing in power within the urban setting.

Heads-up: Spoilers for Episode 3 of this adventure lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Introduced

The third episode concluded with a major cliffhanger and revealed the initial group of heroes who will separate from the primary party to begin their independent quest, distinct from the remaining groups.

The Soldiers table consists of Teor (played by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan (the actor).

The Reason for Division

Considering an extensive roster, it was obvious from the outset that having everyone at a single group would be impossible.

This explains, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Introduction, connecting the individual narratives before splitting into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Strategists, and Explorers.

The Nature of the Combat Party

Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for adventurers who are drawn to a classically intense battle-oriented gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are rare.

Initially, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might appear out of place, but the developments of episode 3 make it clear why these five characters are best suited for the warrior group.

Why They Must Go

To begin with, the team understands precisely where to head next after a violent initial meeting with the antagonists.

A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose death kicked off the story’s plot—exploited the enemy for his personal gain, entering the secret base, attacking Thimble, and taking all the enchanted items to auction.

Casimir then cleared his obligations and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, above the urban center, with Cyd close behind.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each adventurer has a individual motive to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, seeks revenge.
  • The knowledgeable figure is familiar with the northern area and warns that it is a dangerous place.
  • The warrior and The healer, having defied his family’s wishes to execute the target and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
  • But, their position as key figures in the powerful family could enable the team access locations they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, Teor vowed a unbreakable promise to The savior for his rescue and will now accompany him anywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are wanted by the rulers that govern the city for a range of causes, making remaining behind too risky:

  • Thimble and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The warrior and Wicander betrayed the powerful family and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • Teor is targeted for elimination by the clan.

This results in them no alternative but to head to Timmony in search of Casimir.

What’s Next?

From episode three’s follow-up content, we discover that the combat party will not appear the following episode, leaving the other eight cast members to assemble the Explorers and Schemers tables.

Audiences can anticipate finding out which characters will be in which group in the season’s last Overture episode, available to watch on next week.
